02/20/2017 - National Tryout - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI John continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At the plate is where he continues to show best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (96 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball coming off the bat a little differently. At 1B, feet are active/aggressive as he moves well laterally, displaying range. Glove action is soft/sure and he presents well out front. Footwork around the bag is a plus and he is an outstanding receiver, utilizing his outstanding frame well. Hands/feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and carry on his throws. John has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from top collegiate coaches and pro scouts with his baseball abilities.

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament John, a 2018 graduate and Vanderbilt commit, is an exciting 1B prospect with a high-level left-handed bat. He is imposing in his uniform with a 6'4", 217 pound frame and strength throughout. He stands in at the plate with confidence and looks to do damage. With rhythm and a loose stroke with pull-side pop, he is a middle-of-the-order type. While his offense is his calling card, John is an advanced defender as well, showing sure hands and sound feet at 1B. His athleticism and feel for the game show through in the field. Overall, he is an advanced LH hitter to follow for the next few years, and how hard he runs balls out - and plays the game in general - will make scouts like him even more.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
