Official Scouting Report

  • OFPosition Projection

09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament John continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed his improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.81 runner. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking balls down. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate to his target but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, and flashing gap-to-gap pop.

11/04/2018 - College PREP - Tampa, FL John is an athletic and talented 2021 OF prospect. In the OF, John is on time with his prep step, anticipates the ball off the bat, and creates angles to the ball. He attacks ground balls, works behind fly balls, and creates momentum with his lower half when throwing to the bases. At the plate, John starts in a squared stance, gets his front foot down on time, and loads his hands back into the drive position. He keeps the barrel on plane through the zone, he attacks the inside part of the ball, and makes consistent contact to all fields. John will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 John is a very coachable player who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Winter Classic. In the OF, John has active feet while moving to field the ball. He has a clean exchange to throw with a long arm action from a high 3/4 angle. He gains momentum well on his throws which allows them to remain accurate and on-line to his target. John can improve defensively by fielding the ball more towards the center of his body with two hands. At the plate, John sets up in a square stance and is fluid getting back into his load. He comes through the zone well with his lower half, taking a short swing to the ball leading to consistent contact. John can improve as a hitter by extending more through the zone. On the mound, this lefty has an athletic delivery and shows good body control and balance on the mound. His fastball sits from 57-60mph with good arm side run. John can improve as a pitcher by separating his hands later in his motion and by loosening his arm action. Overall, John is a solid prospect who has the time and potential to further develop his skills.

11/06/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Tampa, FL John is a left-handed OF/LHP. In the OF, he fields the ball in a low, athletic position. He stays behind on fly balls as he makes accurate throws to his target. On the mound, this lefty keeps his eyes locked in on his target. He delivers with a strong frontside as he gets extension on each pitch. With the bat, John is aggressive in the box. He has rhythm in his swing as he drives his lower 1/2 hard through the zone. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Quick 1st step
2. Play through more
3. More range
Pitching
1. Loose actions
2. Finish strong
3. Keep ball down in zone
Offense
1. Athletic setup
2. Bat speed
3. Front foot timing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
