07/14/2017 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) John showed in the OF at the event for the first time and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.95. In the OF, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through an uphill swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) John is a young, speedy C/2B. Behind the plate he works very hard, give 100% effort each pitch. He is a very athletic catcher and continues to improve his technique and apply new techniques into game situations very quickly. Offensively, he has a nice squared setup, is athletic at the plate, has very quick hands and extends through the ball well. He competed in each of his plate appearances and came away with a few nice hits during the even. As he gets more repetitions behind the plate he will begin to see a lot of improvement. John has a lot of time to build on his baseball foundation and improve every time he hits the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
