02/16/2014 - College PREP - Brentwood (Long Island), NY
John showed continued consistency to his game at his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. Defensively, his hands play in front and he has a good release with proper footwork. He is accurate to throw to his target and his arm stroke is proper for the OF. Offensively, he showed pop when centered and stayed in the middle with his approach. He was direct with the barrel and showed good hand/hip coordination. John ran his best sixty to date - crossing the line at 7.06 seconds. In all - John continues to project and we look forward to the decision process for the fall.
12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City
John is a hardworking player with a positive attitude and plus makeup as he showed in the OF at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.2 runner. He displays smooth / clean actions in his defensive play as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and maintains solid body control. Defensive grade will continue to improve as works to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to target. Throws are accurate, but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program and work on getting rid of the baseball more quickly. At the plate, he shows a squared, athletic stance with balance. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he learns to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields.
06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2
John continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Defensive grade has improved as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and reads well off the bat. He will continue to improve as he works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup and quick hands that flash bat speed through the zone. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to drop as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, plays hard, and is very coachable.

John is a OF who can swing the bat. Offensively, he displays a tall and square setup and short stride. He makes hard contact, swinging on a level path. The ball jumps off of his bat as he has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. His actions are a little stiff and by loosening them up, he can improve consistency at the plate. Defensively, Picone is a sure handed fielder, catching the ball at its highest point, and throwing through a clean exchange. He gets on top of the ball and makes accurate throws to his target. Getting on a long toss program will help to develop more arm-strength.
