07/07/2020 - 2020 Baseball Factory's National West Showcase John continues to get better each time we see him, and he reached some new personal bests in his metrics at this event. He recorded 90 mph exit velocity, matched that with 90 mph raw arm strength and ran a 7.28 in the 60, showing athleticism. He has a good build that should be durable behind the plate and he threw to 2B as low as 1.95 in the workout. He received quality pitching well showing strong, sure hands. At the plate John employs a bit of a running start with the bat and gets good barrel whip through the zone. He flashed some pop to the pull side and drove a ball to LF in the live at bats. Keep an eye on this prospect - his trajectory is still going upward.

04/29/2018 - College PREP - Fairfield (Sacramento), CA John is a talented catching prospect who has an athletic, strong build. As a right-handed hitter, John has a crouched setup with a centered balance and firm front side. He has a good load with a short stride. John shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path. He gets good extension at contact consistently producing hard contact. He has above average power and the ball jumps off his bat. John has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Behind the plate, John has an effective setup and moves with quickness. He presents a good target and plays the position athletically. He has agile movements and does a nice job blocking the baseball in the dirt. John has a clean exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has good momentum through his release showing strong throws down to 2B. Overall, John has skill on both sides of the ball with the potential to make an impact at the next level.

04/30/2017 - College PREP - Fairfield (Sacramento), CA John is a tall, lean built catching prospect who has a talented skill set on both sides of the ball. As a right-handed hitter, John has an athletic setup and a good feel for the strike zone. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and takes a square stride. John shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path. He gets good separation with his hands and engages his hips with solid rotation. John stays back and produces square contact driving the ball to each gap. Behind the plate, John commands a presence and shows a solid setup. He stays square to the pitcher and presents a low target. John has a clean exchange leading into a short arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has momentum through his release and his POP times range from 2.01-2.12 seconds. Overall, John has an above average talent on the field and good potential to become an impactful player at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
