07/31/2016 - College PREP - Detroit, MI John is a solid C who will graduate in 2019. Behind the plate, John shows good body control and he uses his feet efficiently. He has sure hands that he present on time to receive the ball. He uses the proper footwork getting throws off to 2B, staying on line to his target. His throws also carry well as evident by a 1.95 pop time. John can improve defensively by squaring up his feet in his stance. In the box, John shows good balance and uses a square stride to the ball. He is fluid getting back into his load as he activates his hands. He takes a direct route to the ball and he extends well through the zone. John can improve as a hitter by using his lower half more throughout his swing. Overall, John is a talented prospect and with three more years to develop he has the potential to contribute at the next level.

07/16/2015 - College PREP - Auburn Hills, MI John Stickney showed as a C/RHP in his first outing with Baseball Factory. Defensively, he was controlled with his body, sure with his hands, and quick with his feet to gain ground to throw. He flashed pops in the 2.1-2.3 range and was active behind the plate with his actions. Offensively, he took hacks aggressively, tracked well and had strength through contact. He got his hands activated to launch and with more fluidity and rhythm will hit with great barrel accuracy and pop. On the hill, he threw his FB from 71-76, spun a 10/4 CB from 60-66, and flashed a sinking CH from 58-63. He was mechanically sound, had a good pace, and kept his eyes on the target for plus control of his stuff. Overall - John is an intriguing player that projects nicely over the next 4 years of high school ball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
