01/18/2019 - 2019 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament John continues to show a promising future on the diamond as he continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate, he displays a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.03 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss. He shows a solid setup and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Blocking / receiving skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. At the event, he was 2 for 5 with 2 2B.

08/14/2018 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ John is a young, catcher with good skills. Behind the plate, John has fluid/active feet, soft/presentable hands, and he sits in low and athletically. He blocks and receives well, deadens softly, and throws with accuracy from a quick/short release. If John can stay relaxed behind the plate and add arm strength, solid catching skills can get even better. At the plate, John has an open/athletic set-up, good balance, and solid bat speed. He has a middle of the field approach, makes hard contact, and he can work it gap to gap.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
