07/06/2017 - College PREP - Adrian (Detroit), MI John continues to show as a 1B/RHP and has improved his abilities on the mound. On the bump, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 76 mph. Fastball showed a range of 73-76 mph with arm side. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with sweeping break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 1B, he displays smooth/clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork around the bag. Glove action is soft/sure and he presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a tall, open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach.

08/03/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 John continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 76 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He shows cutting action on his changeup as he maintains arm speed. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. At 1B, he displays smooth/fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he works proper angles and plays through balls well. Glove action is soft/sure as he presents hands well out front. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

04/10/2016 - College PREP - Waterford Township (Detroit), MI John shows a promising future on the diamond. He continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities both at 1B and RHP. Hitting / power potential have improved through a squared, athletic setup. Hands are aggressive and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and has strength in his swing, mainly to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he creates more extension through contact with barrel / hands. At 1B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and presents well out front. Continuing to improve foot quickness will aid in increasing range. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 71-73 mph. Changeup is best off speed pitch as he maintains arm speed and shows a feel for pitch with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Gaining more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in further development on mound.

04/26/2015 - College PREP - Grand Rapids, MI Yorker showed as a 1B/RHP and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date but will benefit by continuing to increase foot quickness. Defensive grade at 1B have improve as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean and work well through the fielding process. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more, plays through, and continues to increase foot quickness. At the plate, hitting and power grades have improved as well through a balanced / athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will increase as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-69 mph with arm side run. Off stuff has improved, now showing as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for with arm side run. Command / control are outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both side of the plate. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/07/2014 - National Tryout - McCook (Chicago), IL Yonker showed as a 1B/RHP and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, defensive grade has improved as he has improved his footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. He works to square balls up, displaying clean hands with defensive grade improving as he attacks balls more, plays through, and increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program and work to get rid of the baseball quicker. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and he makes consistent hard contact as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay closed with his lower half and front side. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 65 mph. Fastball showed a range of 63-65 mph on a downward angle. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program, works to throw strikes with all his pitches, and develops better off speed stuff.

07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City John is a big 1B that also showcased on the mound. At 1B he fields out front with sure hands, uses the proper footwork with his approach, and is aggressive to the ball. He works well around the bag and has a good idea of defensive positioning at first. At the plate he has an athletic setup and strong balance. He sees the ball deep and takes a direct path to the ball hitting consistent line drives. On the mound John pitches to contact with his fastball and works to get ahead early. He repeats his delivery and kept good composure during games.

04/13/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Grand Rapids, MI John is a 1B/RHP that will graduate in 2018. Offensively, he is aggressive with his middle approach, has strength to and through contact and is accurate with the barrel. He is a strong kid that generates good backspin and carry off the bat. Defensively, he makes plays with a clean exchange and an accurate arm. On the mound, he throws three pitches from the high 3/4 arm slot with good arm action, and a rhythmic delivery. He has good direction, and decent feel for his pitches (FB, CB, CH). Overall - John is a strong player that has time to quicken his actions and become more agile for high level high school play.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
