06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Johnathan is a hardworking and very coachable player who had a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He plays hard, shows a ton of energy, and backs up bases, showing plus instincts. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. He will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in building more arm strength. At the plate, he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive swing path. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 4 for 10.

02/12/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Johnathan is a broad, strong two-way prospect who is slightly more advanced at the hot corner. He displays a mechanically sound, repeatable delivery that allows him to live in the strike zone and control his fastball, changeup mix to both sides of the plate. His lower half is strong driving to the plate and he extends through his release to jump at hitters. His fastball has some arm side action and his changeup is deceptive to keep hitters off the fastball. At third, he is light on his feet, a necessity to play the hot corner, and can get to hard hit balls down the line to make tough plays. He fields low and in an athletic position to keep everything in front and make clean plays, throwing with an accurate arm across the diamond. Implementing a long toss program will increase arm strength and give him more time to throw to get runners at first. At the dish, he displays a solid setup with a square stride and load to a powerful bat angle. His lower half works well to generate bat speed through the zone and he makes consistent contact with the ability to go to the opposite field. Johnathan is an intriguing prospect with lots of potential on the field.

07/24/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Johnathan continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. At 3B, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and squares up well with his body. Hands are clean as he presents on time and out front. He shows off his athletic ability on his feeds of the double play. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. Increasing foot quickness will aid in improving range. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through an uphill swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power is best shown to the pull side and will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 59-63 mph with tailing action. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. Overall, Johnathan has a lot of potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

07/10/2016 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Johnathan is a lean, athletic 3B/RHP who will graduate in 2020. At 3B, feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through a low approach while presenting glove well out front. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. At the plate he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an uphill swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing the whole field. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively and adds overall body strength. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 57-64 mph. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 4 years to further develop, Johnathan has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
