08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18)
Johnny is an athletic and talented 2021 Catching prospect that worked hard and made several adjustments throughout the week at Pirate City. Behind the dish, Johnny shows a low target and works behind the ball. He has a quick exchange and makes accurate throws. He needs to increase flexibility to have a stronger secondary stance. Leading with the glove to block and getting the backside low will allow him to control balls in the dirt with his chest. At the plate, Johnny show good plate discipline. He starts in a squared stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball, create backside rotation, and hunt the fastball. Loading knee to knee will allow him to transfer his weight better and stays directional toward the ball. Johnny will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

He sticks balls well in the zone through the receiving process. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner. At the plate, he shows a squared with balance setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 3 years to further develop, Johnny has potential with time and room to progress his game.
