12/20/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Johnny is an athletic left handed hitting OF that will graduate in 2017. At the plate, he showed an aggressive approach with very quick hands. His quiet head allowed him to track the ball to a consistent contact point. He did a great job of squaring the baseball up, driving it on a line. In the OF, Johnny displayed good instincts and ability to track the ball down. On ground balls he did a great job of working around the ball and gaining ground towards the base he was throwing to. He showed quick and proper footwork throughout his time at Pirate City. Johnny has a bright future as he continues to grow and develop.

06/21/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Johnny continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.27 runner. Defensive grade have improved as well, displaying smooth / athletic actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He plays hard and shows a ton of energy and backs up bases, showing plus instincts. At the plate, he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Johnny is an OF/1B that is in his freshman year. Offensively, he hits from the left side with a level/controlled barrel and extension through contact. Johnny understands different approaches depending on counts and proves to be a mature hitter. Defensively, he gets behind and through balls with soft hands and a fluid arm stroke. As he continues to grow and strengthen, we see Johnny having a lot of success in the OF. In all, Johnny is a mature player for his age and has a strong skill set in which to build on.

08/03/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Strongsville (Cleveland), OH Johnny is a tall, thick, 2-way player with a solid frame. In the OF, Johnny has active footwork, agile movement, and he attacks the ball aggressively. He makes plays, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy to his target. At 1st base, Johnny has god pre-pitch actions, solid hands, and good throwing accuracy. Offensively, Johnny has an athletic set-up, good bat speed, and a level swing path. He swings in good rhythm, his timing is solid, and he flashes some pop in his bat. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
