Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/CPosition Projection

01/16/2017 - College PREP - Auburndale (Tampa), FL Johnny showed as a 3B and behind the plate for the first time. At 3B, feet are active as he works to square balls up. Glove action is clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Backhand is solid with range increasing as he improves foot quickness. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.50 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking in the zone. He uses his body well in the blocking process but needs to get down quicker and create proper angles. At the plate, he shows a squared setup and tracks ball well. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently.

11/06/2016 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Johnny continues to make strides in his play, on both sides of the ball, as a right handed hitting 2nd baseman. Offensively, he did a good job of maintaining balance at leg lift and throughout his swing, as he also showed good barrel accuracy which allowed him to spray the ball to all fields. Defensively, he worked to the ball aggressively and did a fine job of centering the ball up while presenting his hands out in front. Arm was accurate and on time, and works well for the position. Only 2018 graduate, Johnny still has room to grow as a player, and will be exciting to track as he continues to progress.

07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Johnny is a talented 2B that continues to work hard in improving his game. At 2B he has good body control, fields with sure hands, and works through the ball well. He is confident in the infield and works well around the bag on double plays. At the plate he has good balance, a level swing, and uses his lower half well. He has good barrel accuracy and is a consistent line drive hitter. Would fit nice at the top of any lineup with his ability to make contact.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
