12/27/2016 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Johnny is a wiry, athletic SS/RHP prospect who consistently outworks everyone else on the field and shows great leadership. He shows impressive feel at the plate, able to get the barrel to the ball consistently while keeping his swing simple but powerful. He is aggressive at the plate, attacking the pitch he is looking for and trying to drive it. His bat speed is evident through the zone and his path is on plane to the ball, resulting in consistent, hard contact and line drives all over the field. At short, his athleticism shines through with striking lateral agility and quick feet to give himself huge range. He takes good angles to the ball and works through it while showing quick hands to exchange and release to throw accurately to his target. On the mound, his smooth actions and easy rhythm lead to a repeatable delivery and solid control to stay ahead of hitters. He gets down the mound quickly and his ball explodes to the plate, making his curveball an out pitch as hitters must respect his fastball that tops out at 91 mph. Slowing his tempo from the stretch will allow his arm to keep up with his body help his stuff play up. Johnny is an intriguing prospect who has a well-rounded game and upside for the next level.

08/21/2016 - College PREP - Dickinson, ND Johnny is a wiry, athletic 2B who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 60 time of 7.05. At 2B, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth, fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he works to square balls up. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. He moves well laterally and covers a ton of ground, displaying range. Hands / feet work well together and he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. Arm strength is tremendous (88 mph velocity) with throws displaying life, accuracy, and on line carry. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows good barrel accuracy and strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. With 2 years to further develop, Johnny has the makings of a special type player as he continues to develop and progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
