Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

02/28/2014 - Yankees Spring Training Experience Jon is a special player who continues to show improvements. Defensively, he shows good actions with quick feet and an excellent fielding position. He can improve by focusing on playing through the ball staying low and keeping his shoulders level. On the mound, Jon shows smooth tempo with a feel for 3 pitches. He will improve by working on keeping his shoulders level at separation, which will help him get on top of his pitches easier. At the plate, Jon has good bat speed and he uses the whole field well. Working on getting his front foot down earlier and making sure his wrists are activated in his load will help with his overall swing. Overall, Jon has the ability to be a special player at the next level as he continues to work hard on all aspects of his game.

07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Jon showed a lot of potential while at Pirate City. On the mound he displayed solid mechanics, good balance point, smooth rhythm, in-line to target, good separation, command of both pitches and a plus curveball. He needs to drive his chest to the target and finish with good extension out front. As an infielder Jon has sure hands, fluid footwork, good agility and gets in an athletic fielding position. He needs to improve arm strength through long toss and work on his lateral quickness. At the plate, he has good rhythm, a solid load, lower half works and the swing path is level. He needs to shorten swing and keep weight centered. Jon is a competitor with a high baseball IQ. He listens well and applies coaching very well. If he continues to work hard, there is no reason he cannot find success in the future.

05/19/2013 - Interactive Video Program - San Antonio, TX Jon is a thin, athletic, 2-way player who plays 2nd base and RHP. In the INF, Jon has sure hands, active footwork, and he fields in a low position. He has good range, he squares up well to the ball, and he throws with a short / loose arm with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Jon has a long / loose arm action, good direction toward home, and his off-speed shows well. Offensively, Jon has a square set-up, a short stride, and good balance. He has a rhythmic / level swing, and gets good extension through the ball. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Backhand
2. More body to throw
3. Field out front
Pitching
1. More glove side
2. Finish
3. Balance point
Offense
1. Bat angle
2. More lower 1/2
3. Let ball travel

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
