08/30/2009 - College PREP - Nashville, TN Jon is a young two-way player on the mound plus at 1B with a big, strong body that is well suited for his positions. Currently, he only projects at 1B for the next level. Foot speed is near average and he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active but needs to be more aggressive in coming to get and playing through ground balls with his feet and hands. Glove action is soft and sure just deep allowing the ball to dictate play. Defensive abilities are near average at 1B. Arm strength is average and he needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength with carry on throws. His throws are accurate in his feeds of the double play. At the plate is where Spencer shows best, displaying solid average abilities and power through a balanced approach. Hands are quick and direct, flashing bat speed. Swing path is level and he shows a solid feel for the barrel. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-77 mph with arm side run. Off speed pitches are near average to below average and need further development to be quality pitches at the next level. With 2 years to further develop, Jon has potential abilities at the plate and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he improves.
