06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Jon is a lanky, young SS/RHP that will graduate in 2016. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.18 60 time. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in squaring balls up and displays clean hands. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack ground balls and play through. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Youngblood shows a balanced approach and loads well. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and works through a level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact, mainly to the pull side and uses his lower half well. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to stay inside the ball more to utilize all fields. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-80 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will rise as more arm strength is gained and he works to throw more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he plays hard and is very coachable. With 3 years to further develop, Jon has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve, possibly as a 2 way guy.
