Official Scouting Report

  • 6Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

07/15/2019 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (Ages 14-18) Jonah continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, he displays smooth/fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean and he presents on time and out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 63-64 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on the pitch. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, a team player, and works hard to be the best he can be.

06/09/2019 - College PREP - Medford (Boston), MA Jonah showed improvements in all areas during his last workout with The Factory. Velocity improved to 67 MPH, hitting grades spiked, and exit velocity improved to 70 MPH. At 1st base, Jonah has active feet, he covers ground, and he centers it well. He has firm hands, a clean exchange, and throws with consistency from a long arm action to his target. If Jonah can play lower and finish throws, defensive grades can continue to improve. On the mound, Jonah has a deceptive delivery, a FB that touches 67 MPH, and he competes in the zone with his pitches. A looser arm action, more extension, and a better finish can help mound effectiveness get better. Offensively, Jonah has a square set-up, a good load, and he swings in good rhythm. He has a square/direct barrel and taps into some lower body. A more still head, letting the ball travel with added bat speed will help hitting numbers improve.

12/08/2018 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Ages 14-18) Jonah is an athletic and talented 2020 prospect that made several adjustments throughout the Mid Atlantic Hitting Weekend. At the plate, Jonah starts in a tall stance and swings the bat hard. He needs to continue to load his hands back into the drive position, get his front foot down on time, and create backside rotation with his lower half. Jonah will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

08/02/2018 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Jonah is a 1B/RHP who graduates in 2020. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls through a low approach. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he showed a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. Power will improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 59-62 mph. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a solid team player.

05/20/2018 - College PREP - Nyack (NYC), NY Jonah is an 1B/RHP graduating in 2020. At 1B, Jonah centers himself in front of ground balls and shows a feel for back hand plays, throwing with an over the top arm slot. Jonah could see improvement in the infield by implementing a pre-pitch routine while staying low and working through ground balls. On the mound, Jonah throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and shows good control (12/15 strikes). Jonah throws a fastball with good mechanics on the mound. His stock will rise by implementing off speed pitches to his arsenal and will see added velocity by utilizing more of his lower half and finishing after his release. Jonah shows upside at the plate with his repeatable mechanics and gap-to-gap approach. He shows an athletic, crouched set up with a square stride and smooth, fluid rhythm. His balance is center with his flat, direct swing path and square contact with the baseball. Jonah can improve offensively by creating separation and utilizing more of his lower half. Jonah has room to grow and develop his game. With 2 years of continued development, Jonah could play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
