12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Jonathan continues to shine on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting/power potential has improved, now displaying solid abilities through a squared setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and makes consistent hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. At 3B, he displays smooth/clean actions. Feet are active/aggressive and he shows a plus backhand. Hands are soft/sure and he presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he hustles and is a team player.

10/22/2017 - College PREP - Potomac, MD Jonathan is a R/R 3B who showed some offensive improvements at his last workout in Potomac. Offensively, he shows an open/aggressive approach, good balance, and a fluid/rhythmic swing. He has some bat speed, he works the middle of the field, and makes square/consistent contact. Swinging on a shorter/more direct path will result in increased bat speed, resulting in more pop. At 3B, Jonathan presents his glove well, fields in a low position, and shows good lateral range. He makes plays consistently, has a clean exchange, and throws with a long arm action across the diamond. Only a 2020 grad, Barber has skills with still time to develop.

07/29/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Jonathan continues to show improvements and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting/power potential have improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. At the event, he was 5 for 8 with a 2B. At 3B, he displays smooth/fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and squares up well with his body. Hands are clean as he presents on time and out front. He shows off his athletic ability on his turns/feeds of the double play. Increasing foot quickness will aid in improving range. Hands/feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. Overall, Jonathan is a talented young prospect who will be a name to follow as he continues to develop.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Barber is a hard worker who made great strides in his game during his time at the Winter Classic. With the bat, this RH swinger shows a balanced approach with fluid rhythm to load. He looks to attack 1st pitch FB's, barrels the ball up and utilizes his lower 1/2 - creating pop. At 3B, Jonathan is aggressive and comes to get the GB. He works through the ball smoothly from the ground-up and has a clean exchange to throw. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid letting the GB get too deep. On the mound, this RHP attacks hitters throwing strikes. FB has very good run which is tough to square up. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape and compliments his FB well. Working the stay on top of and through his pitch on the finish will improve effectiveness on the mound. Jonathan has tools with a ton of upside on the diamond.

10/17/2015 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) At the Accelerated Training Weekend, Jonathan showed an open set up at the plate and utilized a soft and square stride and activated the hands well into a solid launch position. Jonathan displayed an aggressive approach and will increase bat speed by staying looser through the hands and front arm in his load and also by utilizing the power of his lower half more in his swing. Staying more balanced and on the balls of the feet and extending the barrel of the bat through the contact zone after contact will provide more pop and backspin as Jonathan finds the barrel consistently. Keeping the eyes down longer at the point of contact will put Jonathan's spine at a more proper angle to allow for greater extension.

09/27/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Bowie, MD Jonathan is a skilled, athletic 2-way player as a 3B/RHP. With the bat, this righty shows a balanced setup with a solid base. He has fluid rhythm to load and works back into a strong launch position. Barrel delivery is quick through a level path as he connects with pop. At 3B, Barber shows quick/active footwork as he hustles around the GB. He moves well laterally, is sure handed and has a clean exchange to throw. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot & free arm action. He works quickly and stays directional toward the dish. FB ranges from 64-66 mph as he works it to both sides of the plate. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape as he throws it for strikes. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Offense
1. Level out swing path
2. More lower 1/2 drive
3. Contact points
Defense
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Play through ball
Pitching
1. Off-speed
2. More lower 1/2 drive
3. Finish with extension

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
