Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament Jonathan continues to shine on the diamond. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking balls down. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Jonathan is a young, projectable two-way player who any team would benefit from having. He shows feel for his pitches on the mound and is able to throw each for strikes in any count. His fastball is up to 70mph with tailing action and he complements it with a 10-4 curveball and a deceptive changeup from a 3/4 arm slot. He shows fluid mechanics with a repeatable delivery that lead to a consistent release point and good deception. At first, he has good feel around the bag, making short throws for infielders while scooping balls out of the dirt. He has clean hands to exchange and an accurate arm to make good feeds and throws. At the dish, he loads to a stacked position and launches to the ball on a direct path to make consistent contact. He gets on plane early with the bat and makes hard contact to the pull side. Facing more live pitching will get him more comfortable with off speed pitches in the box. Jonathan is an intriguing ballplayer with good potential on the field.

07/17/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Rindge, NH Jonathan is a 1B/RHP with an athletic build. Defensively at 1B, he shows active footwork with awareness around the bag. He has a clean exchange and makes accurate throws to his target. On the mound, this RHP has a 4-pitch arsenal and keeps his eyes locked in. He works in line and commands his pitches in and around the zone for strikes. With the stick, Jonathan gets back into a solid load. He takes aggressive hacks through the zone and squares up pitches driving them on a line. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Work from ground up
2. Develop soft hands
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Pitching
1. Stronger frontside
2. Loosen arm action
3. Lower 1/2 drive
Offense
1. Develop rhythm
2. Stay balanced
3. Improve bat speed

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
