06/23/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Jonathan is a hardworking catching prospect who has a tall, projectable build. Offensively, Jonathan has a tall, square setup with his weight in the front of his stance. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and long, square stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Jonathan has an on-plane swing path and maintains a level head. He produces square contact with good strength. Jonathan has the ability to drive the ball to each gap with power. Behind the plate, Jonathan is a big target and moves well in each direction laterally when needed. He presents a high target and stabs at the baseball as he receives it. Jonathan does a great job blocking and keeps everything in the center of his body. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a long arm action. His throws are consistently accurate with good carry to 2B. Overall, Jonathan plays the game with an aggressive approach and potential to get even better.

02/25/2018 - College PREP - Peachtree City (Atlanta), GA Jonathan is a solid, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he shows as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path, creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. Behind the plate, hands / feet work well together through a clean transfer / exchange in getting rid of the baseball. Pop times show a range of 2.28-2.41 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind the plate. With 3 years to further develop, Jonathan has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
