03/10/2024 - National Showcase - Kannapolis (Charlotte), NC Jonathan continues to show as a top prospect with his baseball abilities on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Receiving/blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. Pop times showed in 2.09 range. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and makes consistent hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 1/2 years to further develop, Jonathan is a talented prospect who has the skill set to contribute at the next level.

01/13/2023 - 2023 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Jonathan is a 2026 C out of Beaufort, NC who showcased his skills during the BF Rookie PSAA Tournament. Behind the plate, he sets up in a relaxed primary stance and tracks pitches well. Works with good direction towards second base as he gains ground and throws from an over-the-top arm slot. Throws were on the bag with a best pop time of 2.03 seconds. Shows on-time footwork on his blocks, with a good spine angle, and tucks his chin. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and open stance with a high hand set. He showed an explosive hip turn with a fast barrel through the hitting zone. He hit balls hard to the pull side with a bat exit velocity up to 86mph. In live game action, he reached base 5 times with a triple, double, 2 singles, and a walk. With 3 1/2 years of continued growth and development, we foresee Jonathan making huge strides on the baseball field.

09/18/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Greensboro, NC Jonathan continues to show as a prospect on the diamond with improvements in his overall baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with a soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner. Pop times showed in the 2.19 range with carry (88 mph velocity) on his throws. At 1B, defensive abilities are solid as he shows smooth/fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. At the plate, hitting abilities are solid with well above average power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

01/14/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Jonathan is a 2026 C/1B prospect out of Beaufort, NC who showcased his skills during the Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament. Behind the dish, Jonathan shows quick footwork and is agile moving to block. He sits in an athletic stance and presents a good target to the pitcher. His exchange is clean and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate with carry through the 2B bag. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a square stride. He gets into his load and leads well with his lower half, producing strong contact. Overall, Jonathan is a talented prospect who has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

09/24/2021 - MS All-Region Tournament Jonathan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact and stays inside the ball, flashing gap to gap pop. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer/exchange. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.14 with carry (81 mph velocity) on his throws. He shows a squared setup and presents a soft mitt out front and utilizes his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Receiving/blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well.

Academic All-American Tournament (MS) Jonathan is a 2026 C. Large frame, with broad shoulders, and athletic build with strength present. Jonathan continues to improve his catch and throw skills. Showed an athletic primary and secondary stance. Gains ground towards second base as he creates momentum on his accurate throws. Recorded an arm velocity of 79mph and a best pop time of 2.25 seconds. Tries to create good blocking angles and ability to cover the 5-hole. A right-handed hitter, he hits from an upright and open stance. Quickness to his hands, with a late bat whip, and a fast barrel through contact. Strength in swing with ability to hit balls into both gaps and a bat exit velocity of 82mph. Jonathan has a bright future on the baseball diamond with continued growth and development.

09/04/2020 - MS All-Region Tournament Jonathan is a very talented catcher who can make things happen and is fun to watch. With the bat, this righty displays an athletic stance as he works into a loaded position. He jumps on pitches he likes and connects with strength (exit velocity = 82 mph). Behind the dish, he sits in well with athletic actions and flexion. He is quick laterally and centers/deadens pitches in the dirt keeping the ball in front. Transfer is clean with pop times now at 2.39. Only a 2026 grad - Piner has a ton of upside and is a player to keep an eye on.

07/23/2020 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Jonathan is a coachable C/3B prospect who worked hard on his skills during the National World Series at Pirate City. Behind the plate, Jonathan tracks the ball into his glove and receives well. Sitting in a lower stance can help Jonathan improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a controlled stride. He is fluid getting into a simple load and hits against a strong front side. He gets good extension through the ball and produces solid line drives. Jonathan can improve as a hitter by remaining balanced throughout his swing. With six more years to develop, Jonathan has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

01/26/2020 - Interactive Video Program - Myrtle Beach, SC Jonathan is a tall/athletic, 2-way player who catches and plays 3rd base. Behind the plate, Jonathan has quick feet, a presentable glove, and he sits in comfortably. He has a quick exchange and a short/accurate arm to 2nd base. Pop times were as low as 3.24 seconds. At 3rd, Jonathan has playable hands and feet, he makes plays on balls hit his way, and delivers it with carry through to his target. Offensively, Jonathan has a square stance, he swings in good rhythm, and can hit to all fields. He has fast bat speed and makes hard contact consistently. Solid skills can further progress with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
