07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Jonathon is a young player who is eager to learn and improve. Behind the plate, he has a good presence and shows that he can block and receive the ball well with sure hands. He has a quick/short arm action and throws over the top. By working on his footwork while throwing and getting a better drive towards his target, he will get more carry and life on his throws. He can also work on lateral quickness with his footwork which will help him block balls more effectively side to side. At first, he again displayed sure hands, but can still improve his footwork while fielding the ball and around the bag. At the plate, Jonathan has a good setup, a good load/stride, and stays balanced throughout his swing. He has very good bat speed and makes hard contact. Letting the ball travel will allow him to not only drive the ball to all fields, but improve his rate of making hard contact. Overall, Jonathon is a coachable player who shows good fundamentals, and his positive attitude will allow him to continue to grow and improve.

06/22/2012 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Jonathan is a big/athletic 1B who graduates in 2017. As a fielder, he showed above average arm strength, soft hands, decent fielding position and efficient footwork. However at times he gets too high in his fielding position, occasionally fields too deep and he needs to work on his footwork around the bag. At the plate, Jonathan has a good load, solid balance, timing is good and his lower half gets through. He needs to start his elbow below his hands because this is causing his bat to drag through the zone but he is a solid overall hitter. Jonathan is a very coachable kid with a lot of upside, if he continues to work he should be one to watch.

05/06/2012 - Interactive Video Program - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Jon is a young, 1st baseman with athletic actions. Defensively, Jon has sure hands, playable feet, and he moves well around the bag. He fields in a low / athletic position, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a short arm action to his target. At teh plate, Jon has a closed set-up, a proper load, and decent bat speed. He has a level swing, he makes square contact, and he gets his lower 1/2 through. Overall abilities can improve if Jon can work on the following.

Defense
1. Lengthen arm action
2. More glove extension
3. Long toss
Offense
1. Shorten swing
2. Let ball travel

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
