Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/OFPosition Projection

04/14/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Jose raised arm strength (66 MPH), lowered 60 time (8.20 seconds), and showed defensive improvements during his last workout with The Factory. At 2nd base, Jose has efficient footwork, he centers the ball well, and fields out in front. He has good lateral range, a clean exchange, and makes the routine plays with consistency from a short arm action to his target. In the OF, Jose has an aggressive approach to the ball, he takes good angles, and covers ground. He gathers himself well, his exchange is clean, and he throws with consistency to his target. Offensively, Jose has loose actions, good balance, and he stands in the box athletically. He keeps his hands inside the ball, works it gap to gap, and he uses his lower body.

12/27/2018 - 2018 Inaugural West Coast Winter Classic - La Verne, CA Jose is a coachable 2B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the West Coast Winter Classic. In the field, Jose makes the routine plays and throws from a high 3/4 angle, keeping his throws accurate to his target. Increasing his lateral range can help Jose improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance with comfortable hands. He works to barrel up the baseball and drives to all fields. Jose can improve as a hitter by activating his hands more in his load. On the mound, Jose gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He shows good confidence and works to keep his pitches around the zone. His fastball tops out at 54mph with tailing action. Loosening his arm action can help Jose improve as a pitcher. With four more years to develop, Jose has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

09/09/2018 - Interactive Video Program - La Verne (Los Angeles), CA Jose is a thin, athletic, 2-way player who plays 2nd base and RHP. Defensively, Jose has active footwork, agile movements, and he fields the ball aggressively. He takes good angles, his hands are firm, and he throws with consistency and direction to his target. On the mound, Jose has a clean arm action, he separates on time, and he lands with a proper length stride toward his target. Offensively, Jose has a tall set-up, good balance, and a flat barrel. He makes contact and uses some lower body. Jose can get better with work on the following.

2. Arm strength
3. Release

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
