03/08/2020 - College PREP - Fresno, CA Jose Gutierrez-Reyes is a 2021 OF/2B. In the OF, he worked his body to get in front of the ball & to field on his glove side, and threw from a low 3/4 & sidearm arm slot. He worked to get his glove above his eyes to secure fly balls and with more footwork/agility drills and tracking drills (taking live defensive reps during Batting Practice) will find more ease in fielding his position & judging fly balls. In the INF, he worked his feet to get an angle on the ball and pick his hop. His timing was good to get the glove down to field, but with a more presented glove with a slight quarter turn will enable him to be even more on-time and soft to secure the ball. He keeps his feet moving through the play and throws to his targets. Offensively, we see Jose as a stronger hitter from the right side. He has a square setup and a short stride to get the move going and showed his power is even greater than his hit. From the left side he had more of a contact approach, but should continue working on fluidity/looseness if he wants to remain a switch hitter. In all - with today's game continuing to get faster and stronger, we think with more athletic development drills Jose can improve his overall game!
