06/06/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Texas Jose continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a tremendous future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting abilities are now at a pro level with superior power potential. He has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. He shows a level swing path. The baseball jumps off the bat (96 exit velocity) when centered with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, he has plus lateral range, working from the ground-up with smooth actions. Hands are soft/sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. Transfer is quick as he fires strong throws zipping across the diamond.

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jose had another good showing in Arizona at the UAAAPS event. He continues to show an impressive hit/power combination with a left-handed stroke that generates big bat speed. The ball jumps off his bat and has excellent carry to the pull side. The controlled violence in his swing leads to loud contact while still remaining balanced and fairly quiet. He drew several walks in game play showing the discipline and strike zone judgement you like to see in a hitter. At 1B Jose made all the routine plays, provided a good target and showed a feel around the bag. He's a prospect to follow thanks to his run-producing LH bat.

11/05/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures Texas Jose is a thick, strong 6'2"/210-pound prospect with legitimate LH power. He takes a big aggressive hack, and when he connects he has light tower power to RF. He has rhythm and instincts to hit - employing a late running start with the bat. That extra move helps to generate serious bat speed, but also complicates his trigger and leads to timing issues. In BP he drove some balls well over the RF wall, making consistent loud contact. Jose seems to profile best at 1B where he has dependable hands and provides a good target for his infielders. Overall, this is a LH power bat - a hard-to-find commodity - that has a bright future.

06/29/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South This powerful LHH backstop continues to shine. With flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. Pop times remains in the low 2.10 range. At the plate, Jose has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone (92 mph exit velocity) as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel as he crushes it to the gaps. A talented prospect - he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat.

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jose is a 6'2/210 lbs left handed hitting backstop that showed exceptional hit ability at his most recent event. In the box, he showed good rhythm to hit and had a smooth path to contact. He kept his head quiet throughout the swing for plus barrel accuracy and flashed gap pop with hand & hip coordination. Behind the plate, he received with sure hands and had a clean exchange to throw to 2B. He anticipated well to block and kept the ball in front of him. In all - Jose has the desirable left handed hitting catching combo that projects him well.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Jose continues to impress on the diamond. With the bat, this strong lefty shows loose hands with rhythm working back into a loaded position. He generates torque, driving his lower 1/2 and connecting with the ball. He barrels everything up and uses the entire field. Behind the dish, Jose shows a solid setup while presenting a low target. Lateral movements are quick as he gets around pitches in the dirt, centering/deadening the ball. Exchange is clean and he gains ground toward his target at 2B on his throws down. On the mound, Jose works to a tall balance point and drives off the rubber, in-line toward the plate. Arm works loose & free with good glove-side lead. FB tops out at 77 mph as he pounds the zone and throws strikes consistently. Breaking ball has tight spin with 'nasty' break, showing to be a solid out pitch. Jose is a versatile player who will make an impact every time he steps onto the field.

07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Jose is a big/athletic catcher who also pitches. Behind the plate he has quick feet, he receives with sure hands, and shows good body control when blocking. He has a strong and accurate arm with a quick release that makes him tough to run on. At the plate, Jose has a smooth load, excellent balance, and uses his lower half well. He is a strong hitter showing lots of pop and an advanced approach at the plate squaring balls up in the gap during games. On the mound, Jose has a fluid delivery, gets good extension, and finishes his pitches well. His fastball has arm side run late in the zone and his curve has late break giving him a solid 2 pitch mix. With Jose's skills and athleticism he should be fun to watch as he gets older and continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
