10/05/2016 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic Joey continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he plays through a low approach. Glove action is soft / clean and he presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a crouched / athletic setup. Hands are loose and quick, working through a level swing path. He shows good discipline and a solid approach at the plate. Hands stay inside the baseball utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. He is a great teammate with time and room to continue to progress his baseball skills.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Joey is a long lean built 2B out of the 2019 class. Uses efficient footwork to attack the baseball, fields out in front with sure hands and works through well. Clean arm action and good release help his throws carry on line to the target. Double play footwork is very sound and he can mix his arm slots naturally with ease. At the plate, a RHH who sets up well with good load timing, sees the middle of the field and had good barrel awareness. Head stays still and should play as a high BA hitter at the next level. With plenty of time to polish his mechanics should be very good at the next level.

10/04/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Trenton, NJ Joey continues to develop strength and speed as he matures into a solid 2-way player. At SS, he is an active fielder with athletic actions and a mature approach. He fields the ball out front and throws with accuracy across the diamond. At 1B, he works around the bag with energy and rhythm, making the routine plays. Working on staying light on his feet and becoming more aggressive at both positions will improve his defensive stock. Offensively, he continues to hit from a simple, square stance with a flat bat path through the zone. He works to stay inside the ball and hits with some pop from his strong lower 1/2. As Joey continues to gain strength and foot speed, he will be a threat in any lineup.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Joey continues to show an upward trend of growth from event to event with Baseball Factory. Defensively, he made plays with a sure glove and worked to keep his momentum through ground balls to throw. He made routine plays and worked very well to his glove side. He cleaned up his backhand mechanics, working through the baseball with his hands and hips, eliminating stabbing at the ball. Offensively, he had good rhythm and offered at good pitches. He drove with his lower half and rotated his core to boost bat speed. During cage work, he worked to become more direct with his path and also worked to implement more hand involvement before his shoulders take him in and out of the zone. All in all - Joey is very eager to learn, respects the game and works hard to improve.

11/13/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Joey is a coachable player who is eager to learn. In the MIF, he shows good prep footwork and moves on the balls of his feet. Lateral range is a plus as he makes the backhand play smoothly. Exchange is quick/clean as he delivers accurate throws across the diamond. Getting on a long toss program and increasing his arm strength will only help defensive skills to climb. With the bat, Joey shows a balanced approach with loose actions. Fluid rhythm allows him to work back into a strong loaded position. Ball shows pop off of his barrel as he uses the whole field. More extension through contact will help power numbers to rise. Joey (2019 grad) is a hard worker who will only continue to get better.

08/14/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Trenton, NJ Joey is a young, 2-way player as a SS/C. With the bat, this RHH has a middle of the field approach with good balance. He swings on a level path and squares the ball up. At SS, Joey has quick/efficient footwork as he works around the ground ball. He has a clean exchange and gains ground toward his target at 1B. Behind the dish, he tracks the ball into his mitt and sticks it, framing well. He works in-line toward 2B and delivers accurate throws. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

Offense
1. Lower 1/2 drive
2. Bat speed
Infield
1. Glove presentation
2. Play through ball
Catching
1. Quicken exchange
2. Blocking

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
