12/06/2015 - National Tryout - McCook (Chicago), IL Balfanz gained 5 mph on his raw velocity since we last saw him, up from 70 to 75 mph. At the plate, he got his hands into a good position following his pre-pitch action, and got the barrel to contact on a direct route. His move through the zone was on a level path, and he got some extension through out front when he rotated his core. Needs to avoid tendency to anchor his back leg, must get forward to allow for ideal move through the zone. Defensively, he setup well and showed solid hands to play the ball. His exchange was clean and he did a good job of getting rid of the ball. He can play lower and with his hands more out front, and has room to shorten up his actions on double play feeds and turns. Overall, a solid player that has made some progress with his tools and skills.
