01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Bickham continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Currently, he projects best defensively in the OF for the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.88. Feet are quick / athletic as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind, plays through, and gets rid of the baseball quickly. Throws display life, accuracy, and on line carry into his target. At 2B, feet are active as he moves well to his glove side, flashing range. His hands are clean but need to be presented more out front to continue to improve defensive grades. At the plate, Joseph continues to show as a switch hitter with solid abilities from both sides. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, he delivers from a high 3/4 arm angle with a loose arm action. His FB ranges from 77 -82 mph, it has slight action and is thrown for strikes. His CB shows downward tilt and has sharp action. He maintains good pace and explodes late off of the mound. He has good balance, level shoulders, and he lands square.

06/20/2011 - College PREP - Houston, TX Joseph is a thin, lanky, athletic 2nd / OF who will graduate in 2012. In the INF, Joseph has soft / sure hands, active feet, and good body control. He moves well to his forehand and backhand, and he fields in front on the balls of his feet. Joseph turns the double play nicely, has a quick exchange, and he throws with a short / loose arm with consistency and life to his target. In the OF, Joseph has quick / active feet, sure hands, and fluid actions to the baseball. He works behind fly balls nicely, he fields in a square / athletic position, and he throws with carry and accuracy to his target. Offensively, Joseph has an open / athletic stance, a short stride, and good balance. He has a short swing, a line drive approach, and he makes solid contact. Joseph swings in good rhythm and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. Hitting can further improve by not spinning off the ball, a higher back elbow, and with more finish through the ball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
