Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

03/19/2017 - College PREP - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Joseph is a talented RHP/OF prospect who has good upside and graduates in 2020. On the mound, Joseph has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing with a loose, clean arm action from a high 3/4 slot. He extends through his release and finishes with his chest over his front knee. Joseph stays down in the zone and locates his fastball. His best pitch is his changeup with sink movement and his curveball has good break. In the field, Joseph has a solid approach and does a nice job getting behind the baseball. He presents his glove and fields it athletically. He has a clean exchange leading into a restricted arm action throwing from an over the top slot. He plays with momentum through the baseball and his throws are consistently accurate. Offensively, Joseph has a square setup with a centered balance and firm front side. He has a quiet head and maintains direction with his stride. Joseph has an on-plane swing path that produces consistent contact. Overall, Joseph has skill on both sides of the ball and good potential to become an impact player at the next level.

09/13/2015 - Interactive Video Program - La Verne (Los Angeles), CA Joseph is young 2-way player (RHP/OF) who has an athletic/projectable build. On the mound, this righty has a 3-pitch mix coming from an over the top arm slot with a loose arm action. He gets good glove side lead with glove tuck and stays directional toward the dish. FB ranges from 66-67 mph as he fills up the zone with strikes. Breaking ball has 12/6 shape with tight spin. He works downhill and drives off of the rubber, extending on his finish. In the OF, Joseph is aggressive and tracks down fly-balls with speed. He secures the ball with 2-hands, has a clean exchange and makes accurate throws to his target. With the bat, this righty shows a balanced setup with patience. Swing is level as he hits the ball where it's pitched and uses the entire field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Off-speed
3. Stay tall in balance point
Outfield
1. Routes/Angles
2. Play through ball
Offense
1. Load
2. Rhythm/Timing
3. More hand separation

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
