Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18)
Joseph continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag. Hands / feet work well together as he presents glove well out front. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a solid feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 74 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.
04/29/2018 - College PREP - Phoenix, AZ
Joseph is a lean LHP/1B graduating in 2020. In the field, Joseph shows a good prep step and efficient feet as he centers himself around the ball and getting into a square fielding position. He shows firm hands and a quick, clean exchange into a long arm action from a 3/4 arm slot. He could see improvement in his glove accuracy by presenting his hands out front. Joseph shows consistent accuracy from a quick release and has carry to his targets. At the plate, Joseph shows a pull side approach. He has a tall set up with a long stride and fluid rhythm, leading with his lower half. Joseph has an on-plane swing path and will see improvement by letting the ball get deeper. Letting the ball travel will allow him to use the whole field and make harder contact. On the mound, Joseph throws three pitches (FB, SL and CH) from a high 3/4 arm slot, hiding the ball well and repeating his mechanics. Joseph is effectively wild but can see improvement in accuracy with a stronger center of balance and extension upon release. Joseph is a projectable player and will excel in the future with more development.
