01/18/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Mesa (Phoenix), AZ Joseph continues to work hard on his skills. Behind the plate, he sits in well with athletic actions tracking pitches into a soft mitt. He covers ground laterally and bodies up pitches in the dirt. He works in-line toward 2B and has a clean transfer with pop times at 2.40. Quickening his release will help those times to continue to drop. At 2B, Joseph hustles to his right and left to get behind GB's. He gathers well and makes accurate throws across the diamond. Offensively, this righty swings against a firm front side which allows him to utilize his lower 1/2. He hits the ball where it's pitched with the ability to drive it the other way. Gonzalez has upside with still time to develop and get stronger to get to where he wants to be.

05/04/2014 - National Tryout - Phoenix, AZ Joseph continues to shows improvements in his baseball abilities. He lowered his pop times and defense behind the plate. Joseph has low hips, he centers the ball well, and he keeps the ball in front when blocking. He has a consistent transfer and throws with accuracy to 2nd base. At 2nd base, Joseph has good pre-pitch actions, he works around the ball well, and he can throw from different arm angles. Offensively, Joseph has a soft stride, good balance, and solid contact to the pull side.

06/27/2013 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Joseph is an athletic, thin catcher/2B that works hard and is very coachable. As a catcher Joseph blocks well with smooth movements going down. He centers himself well and works well laterally. Joseph could soften up in his receiving and a long toss program will continue to improve his arm strength. At second base Joseph displays rhythm and moves thru the ball well. He hustles after everything and with an improved pre-pitch routine and glove extension could have very good range. Offensively Joseph is a disciplined hitter with good barrel action. His stance and set-up are sound but too much pre-pitch movement with his feet can get him out of rhythm. Joseph has a lot of potential and will get better as he grows and continues to refine his skills.

04/28/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Mesa (Phoenix), AZ Joseph is a young, 2-way player with a thin frame. At 2nd base, Joseph has active footwork, playable hands, and he keeps the ball in front. He squares up well to throw, and delivers the ball with a short / quick arm action with accuracy to his target. Behind the plate, Joseph has soft hands, he tracks the ball well, and he throws with a loose arm action with accuracy to 2nd base. Offensively, Joseph has good balance, he is short to the ball, and he stays inside it well. He has a middle approach, and gets his lower 1/2 through. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Body control
2. Soften glove
3. Long toss
Catching
1. Lower target
2. Blocking
3. Quicken exchange
Offense
1. Loosen grip
2. Load / stride
3. Bat speed

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
