01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Joseph continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.28. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved through a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 2 for 2. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

05/06/2018 - College PREP - Colorado Springs, CO Joseph is a young, athletic OF graduating in 2021. In the field, Joseph shows efficient feet that allow him to center himself around the ball. He gets into a square, athletic fielding position and presents his hands out front, making his exchange into a long arm action (3/4 arm slot) using his body's momentum at his release point. Joseph can improve his accuracy and velocity by implementing a throwing program to his training. At the plate, Joseph shows a spray, opposite field approach. He gets into a tall, open setup with an on-time stride and a good hand load. He keeps his balance center and keeps an on-plane swing path. Joseph can improve offensively by creating a rhythm in his swing and utilizing more of his lower half. As a young player, Joseph has time to develop his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
