Official Scouting Report

01/20/2014 - National Tryout - Tucson, AZ Joseph showed consistency in his tools, in his latest Baseball Factory outing. Defensively, he remained sound with his catch and throw - staying in the low 2's with his pop times. He was solid down to block, deadening the ball and recovering quickly with his feet. Offensively, he showed a middle approach with a line-drive path. He was aggressive with his mechanics and used his hips/hands together. In all - Joseph has the athleticism in tools necessary to play at the next level and continues to show a high level of play.

08/04/2013 - College PREP - Glendora, CA Joseph is a strong 2015 graduate who plays catcher. Behind the plate, he does an exceptional job receiving the ball, blocking is solid and he has a quick exchange/footwork. Also he has well above average arm strength at 84 mph. He can improve by continuing to polish his skills. At the plate Joseph has a quiet/simple approach, sound lower half, good extension, bat speed and power. By implementing a few small adjustments to his game Joseph can be a standout player at the next.

07/29/2013 - Under Armour Southwest Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Joseph is a solid C/RHP that will graduate in 2015. Currently, he projects best behind the plate for the next level. He utilizes his athletic feet well in working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.01-2.14 with throws showing accuracy and on line carry through his target. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 6 for 9 with a 2B. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 75-79 mph with slight run. He throws a slight with tight spin and short break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program and he works to throw more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable. With 2 years to further develop, Joseph has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
