Official Scouting Report

  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

08/20/2018 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Joseph showed all around improvements in his game during his last workout with The Factory. In the OF, Joseph has active feet, he fields aggressively, and attacks ground balls. He presents his glove well, fields in rhythm, and throws with accuracy from a quick arm action to his target. On the mound, Joseph's fastball velocity was 73 MPH, he keeps his eyes on target, and works on a downhill plane. At the plate, Joseph improved both hitting and power grades to 45 and 48 respectively. He has solid balance, an athletic set-up, and good bat speed. He makes square contact and can work the ball gap to gap.

02/24/2018 - Mid Atlantic Regional Accelerated Pitching & Catching Weekend (Ages 14-18) Joseph is a hard-working and coachable 2019 LHP prospect that made several adjustments during the pitching and catching accelerated training weekend. On the bump, Joseph has a clean arm action, keeps his eyes on his target, and drives off his backside. Continuing to have a strong front side and working north to south will allow him to work the bottom half of the zone. Having consistent rhythm and tempo will allow him to be more fluid in his delivery. Joseph will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Joseph continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 69-73 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. In the OF, he takes proper routes/angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he utilizes his quick feet well in covering a lot of ground. At the plate, he shows an athletic/open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is extremely coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

04/23/2017 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Joseph is a lean LHP who will graduate in 2019. Delivery is sound/repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point and throws from an over the top arm slot. Fastball showed a range of 68-70 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Joseph has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
