Official Scouting Report

  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

08/21/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Hartford, CT Joseph is an OF/RHP in the 2023 class. In the Of, he aggressively attacks the baseball with active feet. He has a solid drop step to open his hips and create an angle to get behind the baseball. He moves well in the gaps with his 7.20 speed. Working to stay sideways at front foot strike will allow him to create more direction and power on his throws. On the mound, he has a controlled delivery and repeats it well. His FB has arm side run and topped at 67. His SL sits 60-62 and has gradual depth. He keeps the CH at the knees and stays 61-2 with the velo. At the plate, he is short to the baseball and his front foot is down on time. Balance stays centered and he can spray the baseball to all fields. Overall, Joseph is a hard-working player and with some adjustments can become a fine college prospect.

07/10/2022 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (HS) Joseph is a 2023 OF/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Cape Cod Training and Competition. In the OF, plays with good energy and effort and was coachable. Is a coachable kid and has a willingness to learn. Creates momentum on his throws as he throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with an arm velocity up to 68mph. A right-handed pitcher, he gathers over the rubber and separates on time. Throws a FB that sat 52-58mph, and 9/3 shaped slider. A right-handed hitter begins with an athletic and even stance. A quiet head and level eyes as he tracks pitches well. Made contact to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 72mph during BP. With another year of continued growth and development, we foresee Joseph having a bright future on the baseball field.

01/14/2022 - Baseball Factory's Spring Training at Jackie Robinson Training Complex(Ages 14-18) Joseph is a coachable OF/RHP in the class of 2023 out of West Haven, CT. Defensively, he gets good jumps off the crack of the bat to get to tough plays. He tries to work through the ball and makes good throws to his targets/bases. Offensively, he keeps a balanced base throughout his swing which allows him to hit different speed pitches. He swings the bat with intent and makes consistent contact. On the mound, he works with a quick tempo and tries to get ahead in the count on hitters. He throws a 3 pitch mix of fastball (61 mph), slider with 11/5 action and a change up with gradual sink. Joseph could benefit from programs/drills such as long toss, arm path drills, cone fly ball drill (OF), strength training, band work, speed & agility.

12/19/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - North Branford, CT Joseph is a young, two-way player, who plays outfield and RHP. Defensively, Joseph has active footwork, he gets good reads off the bat, and he covers ground well. He works hard to get behind the ball, makes plays, and he gains ground with a crow hop, throwing with accuracy to his target. Defensive grades can get better with a little looser actions, a higher throwing elbow, and added arm strength towards his target. On the mound, this right hand pitcher works in quick tempo, with a clean arm action. He has good direction towards home, he gets good extension on his pitches, and he lands with good direction; competing in the zone. Improved balance over the rubber, and more glove side lead, will help mound effectiveness improve. Offensively, Joseph stands in the box with a square set up, he loads his hands well, and he swings on-plane. He has a rhythmic swing, he makes square contact, and he shows the ability to spray the ball all fields. A better bat angle, not drifting toward the ball, and added bat speed will help offensive numbers get better.

11/11/2021 - Baseball Factory Fall Select Tournament at Pirate City Joseph continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind but needs to play through, creating momentum to his target. Range will improve as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 55-58 mph. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and develops off speed pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

08/15/2021 - All-In Membership - Manchester, CT Joseph is a lean OF who will graduate in 2023. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 3 years to further develop, Joseph has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
