08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Joseph showed at SS plus on the mound for the first time at Pirate City. Defensively, his feet are quick / active and he works to square balls up showing clean hands. He attacks balls and plays through while presenting hands out front through a low approach. Throws are accurate with carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He understands his responsibilities as a middle infielder and communicates well with his team, showing good leadership qualities. Working on quickening his footwork will help his already strong defensive grade to improve. At the plate, he shows an open / athletic setup. He has a good approach up the middle, and shows a good eye for the strike zone. He shows an ability to go the other way if need be. He needs to work to get his lower half more involved in his swing and to get his front stride leg down sooner. On the mound his fastball shows some cutting action on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing an outstanding feel for with arm side run / sink. Off speed stuff shows as a quality pitch that will get outs at the next level. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable. Joseph has the chance to be a special player and he has the ability to play SS, 3B, and 2B. We think he projects best as an infielder but if more velocity can develop on the mound, then he certainly has potential there given how effective his offspeed pitches show. His natural ability, leadership qualities, and workman like attitude make him a player to watch.
