Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

10/11/2015 - College PREP - Hoover (Birmingham), AL King continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, he shows aggressive actions and plays with a lot of energy. He is a quality receiver, displaying solid footwork and shows off his athletic abilities on the feeds of double plays as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he presents glove more out front. At the plate, he has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. He shows good balance and loose with hitting grade improving as he levels out swing path and works to stay on top of ball. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-73 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He shows sinking action on his changeup but slows arm speed, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program, develops better off speed stuff, and works to throw more strikes.

07/29/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Josey is a strong built RHP/1B that displayed pop with the stick at his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. In the box, he delivered the barrel on a level path and had strength through contact. He rotated his core to whip the bat in the zone, and worked to free his lower half to add fluidity and even greater power. At 1B, he was soft with his glove and had good body control making plays. He threw with arm strength to his targets, and presented a good target to his other infielders. Quicker feet and more flexibility will boost defensive skill. On the hill, he threw a heavy FB, spun an 11/5 CB from 65-68, and showed a tailing CH from 67-68. He worked quickly pitch to pitch and when on-time repeated with some aggressiveness. All in all - Josey has the fall and winter to tune-up his game in preparation for a stellar senior season.

06/14/2015 - College PREP - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Josey is a big, solid RHP/1B that will graduate in 2016 with a promising future on the diamond. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. At 1B, defensive abilities are solid, displaying clean / smooth actions. He shows proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Feet are active as he moves well laterally, displaying range. Hands are soft / clean and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Defensive abilities will continue to improve as he works to present hands more out front and increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate with carry and gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and works through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-77 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Slider resembles breaking ball but is slightly hard. Command / control is a solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength. Josey has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
