07/05/2019 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Josh is an athletic 2024 catching prospect that was eager to learn and was very coachable. Behind the dish, Josh works hard and shows leadership skills. He needs to continue to present a low target in an athletic position both with runners on and no runners on base. He tries to block the ball but needs to anticipate the ball being thrown in the dirt and at all costs try to block the ball with his body. He has a three quarter arm slot and makes accurate throws. He needs to continue to work on his footwork to the bases and keep his shoulders in line with his target. At the plate, Josh starts in a tall stance and has a simple load. He keeps his head down at contact but needs to continue to rotate his back hip into the ball. Back hip rotation will help his hands get to contact more consistently and create some power into the swing as well. Josh was a younger player at the camp and worked hard. Josh will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.
