Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Barokas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, his arm strength has improved as he threw his best velocity at 84 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-84 mph. His breaking ball is his best off speed pitch displaying downward tilt. He maintains arm speed on his change-up that has sinking action. Tempo is good as he works quickly and attacks hitters, throwing strikes with all his pitches. At 3B, feet are active as he attacks ground balls, playing through, and moves well laterally. Hands are soft / clean / sure as he makes all the plays. At the plate, Josh shows a solid, balanced setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Power grades will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 4 for 7.

12/27/2011 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic - 2011 This week in Arizona, Barokas displayed the ability to create some good angles and play through the ball in the infield, but needs to be more consistent in fielding the ball out in front. At the plate, he creates good separation and extends well through the hitting zone. His abilities at the plate should continue to develop as he learns to stay tall and use all fields. On the mound, he has a loose arm action, gets to a nice balance point, and stays down in the zone. His tools on the mound should continue to improve as he learns control his stride and develop a slide step with runners on.

10/16/2011 - College PREP - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Josh is a tall and athletic two-sport athlete, who is a RHP/3B on the diamond. Defensively, he plays through the ball well and has soft hands with some good life on his throws across the diamond. He will continue to grow as a defender as he learns to quicken his release. At the plate, he has a good setup with fast hands that create good barrel acceleration, and will be more consistent as he learns to stay on top and extend through the hitting zone. On the mound, he has a projectable frame and creates good downhill movement to the dish. He will continue to develop as he smoothens out his delivery. With two years of high school remaining Josh has the tools and the time to develop them and prepare for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
