06/06/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Texas Josh continues to show improvements in his baseball tools. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.82. At the plate, hitting / power potential are now outstanding. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone (84 mph exit velocity) as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel as he crushes it to the gaps. With flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. Pop times remain in the 1.90 range. A talented prospect - he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat.

01/08/2017 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Josh is a strong/athletic (6'0"/185) catcher who can make things happen when he steps onto the diamond. Behind the dish, he sits in well with athletic actions and good flexion. He sticks pitches in the zone and frames well. He is quick laterally to body up pitches in the dirt, centering the ball off of his chest. Throws to 2B are on the bag coming from a quick transfer/release - pop times at 1.89. Runners will not want to test his arm. As a hitter, Josh displays a balanced setup with active hands. He whips the barrel quickly, connects with pop and creates good extension through his finish driving the ball on a line (exit velocity = 85 mph). A 2018 grad - Caraway possesses the tools that will translate well into the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
