Gibbons continues to progress on the diamond. In the OF, he has active footwork and is aggressive to track down fly-balls. He secures the ball with 2-hands and works through it in-line toward his target. Transfer is clean with accuracy into his target (arm velocity now at 73 mph). Continuing to strengthen his arm (long toss) will aid in his overall defensive development. At 3B, he shows active prep and works from right to left around the GB. He moves well laterally and can make the tough plays to his glove-side and backhand. As a hitter, he shows an athletic stance with rhythm to load. He swings with intent and connects with pop (exit velocity = 80 mph). Josh is a hard worker who has upside as he approaches his junior season.

He plays through ground balls properly, and has an accurate arm with momentum to his target. On the mound, Josh works in good tempo, he shows a controlled landing toward home plate, and his FB showed a top speed of 58 MPH. 03/11/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD
Josh worked out in the OF and on the mound at his last workout in Maryland. He continues to project best in the OF, showing playable hands and feet, and the ability to read the ball off the bat well. He catches fly balls well, fields grounders properly, and has a consistent arm to his target. Continuing to add arm strength and quicken footwork will help OF abilities improve. On the mound, Josh has a good delivery, he is around the plate, and his arm circle is clean. He separates on-time, gets good extension, and competes in the zone. More lower body and working on a downhill plane can help mound effectiveness improve. At the plate, Josh has an athletic set-up, a proper load, and good balance. He has pop into the gaps, he makes square contact, and gets good extension through. Improved timing and not spinning off the ball will only help hitting get even better.
07/07/2017 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14)
Josh continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate is where he has improved the most through a tall setup. Hands are quick (72 mph exit velocity) and work through a level path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. In the OF, defensive grade has improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He utilizes his feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and communicates well. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 57-59 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 5 years to further develop, Josh has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.
