08/12/2012 - College PREP - Raleigh, NC Josh is a lanky RHP/SS that will graduate in 2015. Feet are active as he attacks ground and plays through well with his body. He is sure handed and shows big play potential in the MIF. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry on his throws across the diamond. At the plate, Hiatt shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat, mainly to the pull side. For hitting / power grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 78-81 mph with slight arm side run. Off speed pitches are quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp breaking action. He shows a solid feel for his changeup showing plus arm side run. With 3 years to further develop, Josh has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
