02/13/2011 - College PREP - Middleton, WI
Josh improved in these areas from the Christmas camp: 60 yard dash, arm strength, home to first speed, defensive rating and fielding rating. Hitting and hitting for power stayed the same. Defensively he showed the ability to get around the ball and had a quick release with good life. He added some arm strength increasing from 75 to 81 MPH. Offensively, he will continue to get stronger with maturity. However he was late in getting his front foot down which caused mechanical flaws - in and out of the zone with his path and not much of a hand load. Also he still needs to develop a better lower half load to help with bat speed and power.

Josh is a young, thin, 3rd baseman who will graduate in 2013. In the INF, Josh has good pre-pitch actions, he fields in a good / athletic position, and he moves to the ball well. He works to field the ball out in front of his body, he gets rid of it quickly, and he throws with accuracy across the diamond. Defensive grades can further improve if Josh can add strength, square the ball up better in the center of his body, and get in a better throwing position. At the plate, Josh has a decent load, he gets to his launch position, and his bat path is level. He is a young, coachable hitter who can put the bat on the ball. Offensive numbers can get better if Josh can add strength, throw his hands more directly to the ball, and make better use of his lower 1/2.
