07/07/2020 - 2020 Baseball Factory's National West Showcase Josh continues to become a more and more dynamic player. He is a plus runner (6.60 in the 60) with a simple, compact left-handed stroke that results in line drive contact to all fields. He has the look of a top-of-the-order bat with good barrel feel and can patrol center field well with solid instincts and the ability to close on balls. There is life in all that he does on the field and he is an extremely hard worker - two traits that point toward even more upside for the young prospect.

01/26/2020 - College PREP - San Jose, CA Josh is an athletic OF/LHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Josh gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 82mph. Breaking ball sits at 66mph. Changeup sits at 73mph with tailing action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. In the field, Josh shows quick footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into a square position and fields with a firm glove. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate and on-line to his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a crouched stance and takes a short stride. He gets into his load and hits against a strong front side. He generates fast bat speed through the zone and produces great pop to his pull side. Overall, Josh is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Josh continues to show as a top prospect at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. In the OF, he utilizes his quick/aggressive feet as he moves well laterally, displaying range (6.70 60 time) as he covers a ton of ground. He displays smooth / clean actions with hands / feet working well together through the fielding process as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and on line zip (90 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate, he showed an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength (89 mph exit velocity) in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop.

USA Baseball 17U Championships Joshua brings his high-level tools and athleticism to the field every day. He is natural and quick-twitch in all that he does on the field. He has rhythm in his left-handed swing and he generates bat speed with very little effort. The ball comes off the bat hard and he has advanced eye/hand coordination that allows him to square up balls with regularity. Versatile enough to play all 3 OF spots, he fits best in center where his combination of speed and instincts give him excellent range, and his strong arm adds to his defensive profile. He ran down all fly balls hit his way at the event and shows big play potential. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-76 mph. Breaking ball shows 2/8 shape with gradual break. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches and attacks hitters. Mental makeup is outstanding as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. He has a ton of upside and possesses the skill set that will play at a very high level.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Algarin is a speedy and athletic OF who put his skills on displays during his time at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. Speed is this OF's key tool - running a 6.62 60 yard dash. At the plate, this leadoff lefty steps into the box with patience waiting for a pitch he likes. Hands are quick as he whips to the barrel to and through the zone and extends well at contact. He puts the barrel on the ball, scoots down the 1B line and puts pressure on the defense with his speed. In the OF, Josh tracks down fly-balls hit into the gaps with ease. He maintains athletic actions and has a smooth transfer/release to throw. This 2021 grad is a very talented athlete who is definitely one to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.

10/24/2018 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Josh is a coachable OF/LHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the SoCal Classic. In the field, Josh shows fluid footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate and on-line to his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and is smooth getting into his load. He drives his lower half through well and produces loud contact and line drives. On the mound, Josh gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. Josh shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 77mph. Breaking ball sits from 61-63mph with good break. Changeup sits from 68-71mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall, Josh is a talented prospect who should find success in this, his sophomore season.

08/05/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Lodi (Sacramento), CA Joshua is a talented LHP/OF prospect who has an athletic build. On the mound, Joshua has a compact motion and keeps his eyes on his target. He has balanced, on-time mechanics throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. Joshua has a clean arm action and extends through his release. He has a controlled landing and is closed to home plate. Joshua does a nice job rotating towards his target as he finishes. He commands his fastball with late movement and curveball with medium break. His changeup is deceptive with run movement. Offensively, Joshua has an open setup with a centered balance and firm front side. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and short stride. Joshua shows fast bat speed with quick hands. He has a direct swing path and gets good extension at contact. He consistently lands the barrel to the ball and has a high finish. Joshua is a line drive type hitter who has upside. In the field, Joshua plays with quick footwork and agile actions covering good ground. He fields the ball in an athletic position with soft hands. Joshua has a quick exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a quick release showing strong, accurate throws. Overall, Joshua has an above average skill set on both sides of the ball giving him a bright future on the diamond.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Josh is a skilled two-way player who showed well during his time at the All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament. In the field, Josh shows quick footwork and is very agile ranging to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He has a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws which allows them to remain accurate to his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and comes through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed which leads to solid line drives. On the mound, Josh shows a solid delivery as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm action as he extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. Josh has a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 74mph with arm side run. Changeup sits from 63-65mph with arm side tail as he throws with fastball arm speed, showing to be a real out pitch. Josh is a talented player who has upside on the diamond.

12/03/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Sacramento, CA Joshua continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 72 mph. Fastball showed a range of 68-72 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, he displays aggressive / clean actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft and he presents well, utilizing two hands through the process. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach.

08/06/2017 - College PREP - Lodi (Sacramento), CA Joshua is a talented OF/LHP prospect who has an athletic build and versatile skill-set. As a left-handed hitter, Joshua has a square stance with a firm front side and a centered balance. He takes a load with a short stride. Joshua shows fast bat speed and gets good extension at contact. He is a line drive type hitter who has the ability to drive the ball to each gap. In the field, Joshua plays with effective footwork taking the correct angles to stay behind the ball. He fields the ball in a square position with a firm glove. Joshua has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He plays with good momentum through his release producing consistently online throws. On the mound, Joshua has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He repeats his motion and stays compact while showing a loose arm action. Joshua lands closed to home plate with a controlled landing and does a nice job rotating with his core towards his target. He commands his fastball with good sink action. Joshua also features a deceptive changeup he commands and a developing cutter. Overall, Joshua has a talented skill-set on both sides of the ball with the right approach giving him good potential to be an impactful player at the next level.

03/24/2017 - College PREP - Dubai, UAE Josh continues to show us strong mechanical actions and ability. In the OF, he works well to the ball, and has good feel for angles & routes. As he continues the trend of improvement in quickening his feet and adding explosiveness - this L/L prospect will surely turn heads. At the plate, he has good rhythm and fluidity, delivering the barrel on a direct path to contact. As his frame continues to fill out, Josh will find himself hitting the ball harder, without changing his swing. On the hill, the southpaw showed a three pitch mix, with a sinking FB, SL, and CH. He gathers well over the rubber to initiate his delivery and has clean arm action, repeating his delivery time and time again. In all - Josh has a bright future in the game as he is very cognitive and mechanically sound.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Joshua continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. In the OF, feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 65-70 mph with tailing action. He displays a sound / repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters throwing strikes with all his pitches. He shows good composure and competes on the mound. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

08/07/2016 - College PREP - Lodi (Sacramento), CA Joshua is a young, left-handed two-way player who roams the outfield taking efficient angles giving him the ability to make every play. Joshua plays with active feet and takes the proper angels with good body control. He gets a good read on the ball, receives it firmly, and has an accurate arm hitting his target. Offensively, Joshua has a square setup with a firm front side and takes a short stride. Joshua displays explosive bat speed with a direct and fluid swing leading consistent hard-hit line drives sprayed across the field. On the mound, the lefty throws from a 3/4 arm slot with good balance and finishes towards his target leading to good control. He has arm side run on his FB ranging from 66-70 MPH. Completing his repertoire, Joshua has a 2-8 cutter and a change-up sitting 61-64. Joshua has a high ceiling at his young age and is certainly and prospect to follow.

07/29/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Joshua continues to show a promising future both in the OF and on the mound. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet in covering a lot of ground and makes the routine plays. He shows good game awareness and does a nice job of backing up bases. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He will put the ball in play and makes consistent contact. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 61-63 mph with tailing action as he hides the ball well. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. Overall, Joshua is a talented young prospect who will be a name to follow as he continues to develop.

03/25/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Dubai, UAE Joshua is an athletic 2-way player who continues to impress. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and tracks down fly-balls with speed. He secures the ball with soft/sure hands and gains ground through an aggressive crow-hop toward his target. Arm plays better than his velocity as he keeps the ball low and on a line, getting the long hop. Offensively, Joshua displays an athletic/balanced setup with fluid rhythm to load. He whips the barrel with quick hands, has a smooth stroke and squares the ball up consistently. On the mound, this LHP displays excellent rhythm/tempo and repeats his delivery well. He works the ball in and out and fills up the zone with strikes. FB shows slight cutting action 61-64 mph. Joshua is a hard worker who leaves it all on the field. This athlete has a very bright future ahead of him.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Josh continues to show a lot of upside as both an OF/LHP with off the chart intangibles. Offensively, he showed good pitch recognition and was already ready to hit the fastball. His stance to launch to swing was fluid and he worked to keep the hands through the baseball on a direct and level path for more consistent line-drive contact. In the OF, he worked to a good fielding position and made plays with a soft glove. He used his body to gain momentum to throw by creating good angles and communicated well. On the rubber, he threw his FB, and a CH with late sink from 51-55. His backside worked through and he had a smooth tempo to repeat his delivery. In all - Josh has time on his side to continue growing and adding strength to his already fundamentally sound game.

04/06/2015 - College PREP - Dubai, UAE Josh is an athletic L/L two-way player (OF/LHP) that showed a lot of upside in his first outing with Baseball Factory. The first aspect of Josh's game that immediately stands out is his overall presence - with good energy and a constant smile - his attitude is contagious. At the plate, he had a balanced setup with natural rhythm, and displayed feel to hit. He was aggressive to deliver the barrel down to contact and accelerated the barrel through the zone, using both hands and hips in coordination. In the OF, he worked to the ball with body control and flashed a quick first step to make plays with a sure/ready glove. He got his body behind the ball and had a clean exchange to throw with a good arm circle. On the hill, he showed sound mechanics as he gathered over the rubber to balance, starting his delivery. He was fluid throughout his actions and worked free arm action back and extended through over his front. Overall - time is on Josh's side as he strengthens both his body and his game - building off his impressive fundamentals & intangibles.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
