Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Joshua is a coachable player who worked hard on his skills during his time in Pirate City. On the mound, this righty maintains fluid tempo and works at his pace. He gets to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and stays directional toward the dish. He repeats his delivery well and throws strikes. FB sits in the low 70's as he works it to both sides of the plate. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape complimenting his FB well. He attacks hitters and works ahead in the count. Finishing with more extension (towel drill) on his follow through will help to improve effectiveness. At 3B - Burnett works hard to get into a square fielding position. He makes the backhand play efficiently and has a clean exchange to throw. Presenting his glove and working to field the GB more out in front will help to improve abilities in the INF. As a hitter - this LH swinger stands in with centered balance. He has good zone awareness (drawing 2 walks at the event). His swing is level and repeatable. Improving his rhythm to load and creating more extension through contact will help to improve skills at the plate. A 2018 grad - Joshua has tools with still time to progress.

09/06/2015 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Joshua is a RHP who graduates in 2018. On the mound, this righty has a 3-pitch mix coming from an over the top arm slot. He keeps his eyes on the target, gets strong glove-side lead and works in-line toward the dish. FB ranges from 69-73 mph as he works both sides of the plate. Slider has a 12/6 shape with early action. Changeup is thrown with FB arm speed as it shows to be a solid out pitch. Strengthening his arm through a long toss program will help to increase FB velocity. With the bat, this LH swinger shows an athletic setup with rhythm in his hands. He swings on a level path, connects and hits line-drives. More power potential is there with more lower 1/2 drive. Joshua still has time to develop his skills to get to where he wants to be.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
