Official Scouting Report

  • 2B/OFPosition Projection

09/10/2017 - National Tryout - Fresno, CA Joshua continues to play hard and improve his skills as a 2B/OF. Defensively at 2B, he hustles hard laterally as he tries to get into a square fielding position on GB's. He gives maximum effort and wants the GB on every play. In the OF, he takes aggressive angles/routes as he tracks down fly balls. He has soft hands, sets his feet and throws the ball accurately through his cut-off man. With the stick, Joshua shows a square setup with balance. He swings on a direct path through the zone and consistently drives the ball on a line. Developing quicker hands will help this RHH to get his barrel through the zone on time and to square up more pitches with pop. This 2022 grad is a gamer who still has a ton of time to develop.

07/10/2016 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Joshua is a raw athlete who shows versatility on the field and whose eagerness to improve has paid off. He has advanced hitting instincts with good bat to ball skills. At the plate, he has a middle approach and does a good job of keeping his hands inside the ball. He also has a direct path to the ball with a level swing and good feel for the barrel. At second, Joshua shows smooth hands and a quick transfer on DP turns. He also shows good fundamentals pre pitch and while fielding, presenting his hands out front. Implementing a long toss program will help improve arm strength. Joshua is a hard working player is an interesting prospect to continue to follow.

03/20/2016 - National Tryout - Redwood City (San Francisco/San Jose), CA Joshua continues to work hard on his skills. With the bat, this RH swinger shows a square setup with patience and centered balance. He gets loads and waits for his pitch. He takes an aggressive hack and works to barrel the ball up. Swinging on a more direct path while creating more extension through contact will help to improve abilities at the plate. At 2B - Joshua has active footwork and hustles into a square fielding position behind the GB. He can turn the DP efficiently and works well around the bag. In the OF, Joshua takes good routes and hustles to track down fly-balls hit to his right and left. He secures the ball with 2-hands and has a clean exchange to throw. Continuing to strengthen his arm (long toss) will help to improve his skills in the OF. Fernandez (2022 grad) still has a ton of time to develop to get to where he wants to be.

09/13/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Fresno, CA Joshua is a R/R 2-way player as a 2B/OF. With the bat, this RH swinger shows a square setup with patience. Swing is level and repeatable as he creates consistent contact. At 2B, he shows prep footwork, hustles and works hard to get into a square fielding position. He tracks the ball into his mitt and has a clean exchange to throw. In the OF, Joshua works hard to tracks down fly-balls hit to his right and left. He gathers well and works in-line toward his target. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Offense
1. Load
2. Contact points
3. Lower 1/2 drive
Infield
1. More aggressiveness
2. Lower fielding position
3. Play through ball

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
