Official Scouting Report

  • C/1BPosition Projection

05/29/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Wappinger Falls, NY This young 2-way player continues to progress. Behind the plate, he gains ground toward 2B with accurate throws on the bag - pop times now at 2.27. At 1B - he has active prep and hustles around the GB into a square fielding position. He makes the plays with soft hands and can pick throws out of the dirt. Offensively, Joshua shows more naturally from the right side. He likes the pitch on the inner 1/2 and pulls it with pop. Leveling out his swing path will result in harder/more consistent contact. A 2019 grad - Polon is a hard worker who has a ton of upside.

08/18/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Trenton, NJ This switch hitting 2-way player continues to work hard on the diamond. Behind the dish, he sits in well and receives with solid pocket awareness. Throws down to 2B are accurate as he gains ground and works in-line. Continuing to strengthen his arm will help pop times to drop. At 1B, Polon works low from the ground-up and secures GB's with soft hands. He takes a quick first step and can get to GB's hit to his right and left. With the bat, he tracks pitches into the zone waiting for the one he wants. Swing is level as he barrels the ball up and uses the middle of the field. Engaging more of his lower 1/2 will result in increased power. Joshua (2019 grad) is a hard worker who still has a ton of time to develop his skills and physically mature.

03/08/2015 - National Tryout - Hightstown, NJ Polon continues to work hard on his skills. Behind the dish, he sits in well, presents a solid target and sticks pitches in the zone. Exchange is clean as he gains ground toward 2B, putting his throws on the bag. Staying low to throw will help pop times continue to drop. With the bat, this switch hitter shows slightly better from the left-side. He swings on a level path and hits the ball up the middle of the field. A shorter/more direct swing path with more bat speed will result in increased pop off of his barrel. As a 2019 grad - Joshua is a talented player for his age and still has a ton of time to develop on the diamond.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Joshua is a solid player who as the ability to swing it and glove it. He is a hard working catcher who has a great baseball IQ allowing him to control the game from behind the plate. Behind the plate Joshua showed well, with a great transition to throw and good direction to his target. He shows a good setup and great hands with a low target, with the ability to win strikes for the pitcher. To improve behind the plate Joshua needs to continue to work on his mobility and flexibility. At the dish Joshua has the ability to swing it from both sides of the plate and shows good pop form both sides. He showed better from the right side, but had the ability to hit well from the left. From the right side he took confident aggressive hacks, displaying flashes of above average power. From the left side he showed a simple quiet setup with great body control throughout the swing. Joshua showed great barrel accuracy during the games, with the ability to hit in any count.

12/14/2014 - National Tryout - Madison (NYC), NJ Joshua continues to work hard on his game. Behind the dish, he sits in well and tracks the ball into his mitt. Exchange is clean as his throws show carry into 2B as low as 2.41. At 1B, he shows active pre-pitch footwork and hustles around the ground ball. He is sure handed and has the ability to pick throws out of the dirt. With the bat, this switch hitter shows a balanced approach with patience. He lets the ball travel, swings on a level path, and squares the ball up. Working to improve his rhythm/timing will help to increase contact consistency. Only a 2019 grad - Joshua still has a lot of time and room to develop his skills.

08/14/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Trenton, NJ Joshua is a switch-hitting catcher who has a solid build (5'4"/150). With the bat, he has an aggressive approach and squares the ball up. He uses his lower 1/2 to create torque as he generates pop off of the barrel. Behind the dish, Joshua presents a low target and sticks the pitches. He works around pitches in the dirt and centers them off of his chest. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

Offensively
1. Shorten swing path
2. Front foot timing
Catching
1. Lower setup
2. Footwork/agility
3. Arm strength

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
