Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

07/24/2019 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Joshua is an athletic C/RHP that will graduate in 2020. Behind the plate, Joshua shows a well-presented low glove with a relaxed wrist. He keeps a low stance in his secondary replacing his feet as he works to 2B. His exchanges are clean as he delivers the ball to the 1B side of the bag. His blocking is solid with on time footwork as he creates good angles to keep the ball in front of him. Joshua sets up at the plate with high hands as he works to get his foot down on time showing good barrel control. He rotates his core well making solid contact, especially to the opposite field. Pitching, Joshua shows simple movements as he separates on time to get good direction to the plate. Joshua shows good awareness and toughness behind the plate which are major keys to a high-level catcher.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Joshua continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times were in the 2.05 range with accuracy and zip on his throws. Feet are active, working in line to his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He plays with a ton of energy and shows the ability to handle a pitching staff with his receiving / blocking skills. At the plate, he continues to shine. Hands are quick and work inside the baseball as he utilizes all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 73-74 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. A projectable catcher, Joshua has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the college coaches with his baseball abilities.

02/03/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Parker (Denver), CO Joshua continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.06 as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he creates good angles in deadening balls out front. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with balance. Hands are loose and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Joshua in an athletic 2020 C/RHP prospect. Behind the dish, Joshua gets into a balanced primary/secondary and presents the ball well post impact. He has a clean transfer and makes accurate throws. Anticipating balls is in the dirt and smothering the ball with his chest will allow him to control the running game. At the plate, Joshua has an athletic setup and gets his front foot down on time. He uses the lower half and attacks the inside part of the ball. Continuing to load the hands into the launch position and keeping the chest behind the front knee will allow him to get extension through the ball. On the bump, Joshua gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and has a firm glove side. Joshua is a grinder and was very impressive handling the pitching staff. Joshua will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
