10/24/2014 - 2014 Under Armour So Cal Classic Upperclass Participant thletic frame, quick twitched, smooth actions, covers ground well, accurate arm with carry, very patient at the plate, stays inside the ball, ability to drive ball gap to gap, good bat speed, ball jumps off bat, runs bases aggressively, takes good turns

09/27/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures West Josh continues to improve each time we see him, and he showed very well at the Futures West event. His calling card is a sweet LH stroke that is simple and effective with very few holes for a young hitter. He has the advanced ability to let the ball travel, pick his pitch and make hard barrel contact to all fields. Hitting seems to come easy to him as he is unfazed by velocity or breaking stuff. Defensively, Josh reads the ball well off the bat, takes good angles and can make plays in all three OF spots. Overall, Josh has the type of LH bat that is in demand at all levels.

07/31/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Southwest Championships 18U Participant 8/3 - Good athlete, good approach at the plate, direct to the ball with good bat speed, lots of barrels, 4.53 H-1B tim

10/26/2013 - 2013 Under Armour Futures Series West Joshua continues to impress. A smooth swinging lefty who has a simple/quiet approach. Gets back into a strong loaded position and swings with excellent bat speed, getting extension to and through the ball. In the OF, is aggressive and comes to get the ball. Plays through well, gathers and fires the ball with life on his throws. A projectable OF who can swing it with a bright future on the diamond.

12/27/2012 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic Joshua continues to show a solid skill set. At the plate, he gets into a good loaded position, good balance and he gets his lower 1/2 through. He swings on a level path and has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. In the OF, he has fluid footwork and good range, getting to balls hit in the gaps. He gets behind the fly-ball well and plays through to his target. Stephen has a good feel for the game, has a good baseball IQ and is very coachable.

09/09/2012 - College PREP - Azusa, CA Joshua is a very talented young OF that will graduate in 2016. In the field, he displays good life in his body with fluid feet and agile range. His hands are sure with a quick/clean exchange. He shows the ability to work behind and through the baseball. Throws are accurate and Joshua does a good job staying inline with his target. At the plate, Joshua has a fluid swing with gap-to-gap power. His lower half and hand action shows good explosion driving through the ball. Swing path is short and on plane with fast bat speed. Joshua can continue to focus on his weight transfer making sure that his body is centered with he reaches his load position. With 4 years to further develop, Joshua has all the makings to be a special player that will catch the eye of college coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
