06/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series Joshua continues to work hard on his game. He is a coachable player who hustles all over the field. On the mound, he has solid mound presence and looks the part. He works quickly keeping hitters off balance. Separation is on-time as he drives toward the plate and extends through his finish. FB now tops out at 68 mph showing slight cut. Reaching back more and allowing his arm action to work (loosely) will help to improve effectiveness on his pitches. In the OF, Joshua shows active pre-pitch footwork as he hustles to track down fly-balls. He covers ground with speed and creates good angles toward his target. With the bat, this righty shows a balanced approach with a solid barrel. He takes an aggressive hack and hits line drives consistently. He is a good situational hitter, working the count and battling pitchers. Stevens (2019 grad) is a gamer who brings his all to the field. He still has a ton of time to develop his skills on the diamond.

03/29/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Pittsburgh, PA Joshua is a R/R 2-way player (RHP/OF) who has an athletic/projectable frame (5'10"/150). On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and loose/free arm action. He works to a tall balance point and stays directional toward the dish. FB ranges form 64-71 mph while showing slight run. Splitter has good drop and ranges from 56-60 mph. Changeup has sink and compliments FB well. In the OF, Joshua hustles into position behind the fly-ball. He secures it with 2-hands, gathers well and has a clean exchange to throw. With the bat, this RHH has a square setup with quiet/simple actions. He swings on a level path, connects with strength and drives the ball back up the middle of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Arm action
3. Separation
Defense
1. Routes/Angles
2. Prep footwork
Offense
1. Relax/Loosen actions
2. Lower 1/2 drive

05/26/2012 - Little League® Experience Josh is a tall/solid kid who is a RHP and also plays 1B. His arm strength is above average and he has good life on his ball. As an infielder Josh has an athletic/low fielding position, active/efficient footwork, fields the ball out front, he showed good agility, good body control and a plus backhand. He needs to work on softening his hands. On the mound Josh displayed a good balance point, separation, tempo and he has good control. He needs to stay in-line to his target and not fly open on his front side. Long toss will benefit him a lot. At the plate he is raw but showed good tools to work with. His timing is good, bat speed is fast and he hits the ball hard. He needs to work on his basic mechanics though. Developing a smooth load and striding directly at the pitcher are the most important adjustment he needs to make but he also needs to use the whole field and have a smoother overall approach. Josh has the tools to be a successful player in the future if he makes the proper adjustments and works at them.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
